Abstrak

Inadequate public street lighting remains an issue in Sambilawang Village, Serang Regency, resulting in several dark areas and reducing residents' sense of safety and comfort at night. As a community service initiative, students of Universitas Bina Bangsa implemented a solar-powered street lighting program involving local residents. The activities included site surveys, identification of priority locations, coordination and socialization, preparation of equipment and materials, installation, testing, evaluation, and handover and maintenance. The results showed that the solar-powered streetlights could operate automatically at night and provide lighting at locations that previously had insufficient illumination. The program also encouraged community participation in public-facility maintenance and increased awareness of renewable energy. Thus, community-based solar-powered streetlight installation can be an alternative to improve the safety and comfort of nighttime activities in rural areas.
